Metamorphosis II

2017
HD, 16:9, Colour, no Sound, 59'

The starting point for this animated video is a collection of photographs of Greek sculptures that Erich Busslinger took during trips to Greece and found in archives. They show Greek sculpture in various stages of development, from archaic statics to movement and the expansive dynamization of the body. This emergence from the static is a kind of primary movement and an expression of the individual, performative body language of a new self-perception of the human being. Through multiple cross-fades, the video evokes a multi-layered view of these body languages and shows their diversity of forms and modes of expression in transformation.
